The Market, or Mercat cross of Kincardine stands at the south end of the High Street. The shaft is octagonal with a moulded base and stands on top of octagonal raised steps. The date is uncertain but probably the later half of the 17th century. When the cross was moved for restoration work in January 2014 two masons' marks were revealed in the recess the cross was set into with the date 1830 and the initials J H, which are probably these of the mason of the 19th century. Mark 1 is of an earlier date than No 2, as the date 1830 is partly cut into it. This mark may therefore relate either to the initial building of the cross in the 17th century or an earlier repair.
