Little survives of the church which was dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the 13th century. A number of churches probably stood on this site as medieval grave slabs were found built in the the surviving structure. Only two parts of the earlier churches survive - the Thornton Aisle, which was added in 1615 and the Barclay burial vault, a barrel vault. The present church was built in 1806
Four masons marks, carved on the same stone, were noted on west side of entrance to the Barclay vault. | | |
