Built mid 12th century on the site of an earlier church, with the attached round tower built c1000AD; major work undertaken in 13th and 14th centuries. Reconstruction in 1806 caused considerable damage; restored to original form in 1900-2. 13th century work survives in the west doorway; 15th century square tower flanks the doorway to north. The choir is a shortened version of the 13th century building.
Project survey undertaken. Two examples of two different masons' marks recorded with their initials on either side of the marks were noted. Two marks were found on the exterior of the Round Tower but they are most likely from later work undertaken on the cathedral.
393 marks were recorded with 55 different masons. | | |
