A church stood on this site since at least 1243, when it was dedicated to St Nicholas. The present church tower was built in the early 16th century, with the church added on its eastern side, which probably incorporated earlier fabric from the medieval church. The outline of the earlier church is partly visible in the cemetery to the north of the church. The church was rebuilt in the mid-18th century then was altered in 1846. Mason called Andrew Wilson worked on the church in 1846. It is now used as a hall. During renovation work carried out in 2013 part of an arch was revealed around the doorway leading from the tower into the hall. Two masons' marks were noted on it. Further examination of the tower revealed a few further marks on the newel of the tower stairs and on two doorways of the tower. 6 marks were recorded with 3 different masons.
