Tower built probably late 13th century with later 14th century work in the Lairds Hall. Jacobean mansion added to the south in 1619.
Most marks were recorded on the newel of the stair in SE corner of the tower and in the Laird's Hall. Two different groups of masons appeared to work within the tower. Masons 7, 8 and 9 worked only within the Laird's Hall, with the majority of the upper floor corbels in the Laird's Hall bearing the same mark of mason 7 on them. Marks belonging to masons 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 were found on the newel stair area only and not within the Laird's Hall. This could therefore suggest two definite building periods. Only three marks, masons 10,11 and 12 were recorded in the later 17th century house. 59 marks recorded with 12 different masons. | | |
