Possibly late 12th century but first reference is late 13th century. South and west walls and the remains of a round tower are 14th century. The north-west tower is thought to be 14th-early 15th century. The east gate was built in the 15th century. The rectangular tower, known as Davie's Tower, was started by Bishop David Stewart in the mid 15th century. The great hall and chamber were erected on the north side of the courtyard in the early 16th century. 22 marks were recorded with 14 different masons. No's 7 and 8 are fairly similar so may be the same mason. No14 was not recorded by the Project so it's location is unknown. There is a probability that more marks have still to be located. | | |
