Although the land has been owned by the Brodies since 1160 nothing remains of an earlier castle. Tower may have been built c1430. Added to in 1567 forming a Z-plan castle but was destroyed by fire in 1645 but later rebuilt. It was greatly expanded in 1824 by architect William Burn.
